Good Practices for Altium Schematics

1)  Use Arial Narrow Fonts, Size 10 to display underscore characters and use less area.

2)  End Net Class values with a letter.  Avoid names that end with a numeric characters.

Good: DIFF_90R
Bad: DIFF_90

This tip will prevent automatic numerical incrementing of the Net Label when using Shift + Drag.

3)  Use _N and _P suffixes for Differential Pair Net Names.

4)  Include a segment of wire to simplify wiring changes and display Net colors..

5)  Use color coded notes in the schematics.  Delete action items in the final review.

6)  To navigate between connections hold down the ALT key and use a single click or a double left mouse click.

7)  Use sheet to sheet Port Cross References.  Reports > Port Cross References. . .

Using Cross References will simplify finding missing sheet to sheet connections.

User Preference Settings . . . Schematic > General > Port Cross References

To Update xREFs . . . Reports > Port Cross Reference > Update . .

Migrating Parts to Altium 365 Managed Components

Link to YouTube Video

Tip:

LifeCycle is a reserved field name in Altium's Managed Components Database.

If you are migrating a database library to Altium's Managed Components renaming the LifeCycle Field in the your database will simplify migration. The recommend field is Parts_Status for compatible with the Parts Database.

The Parts Frontend is compatible with LifeCycle or Parts_Status.  As of Mar 26, 2022 the default was field name changed to Part_Status in the Parts demo library
